Receiving a massage is not just a great way to treat and pamper yourself; it is widely acknowledged that regular massage therapy is able to contribute positively to your health and well-being. We specialise in the following styles of massage:
Swedish / Relaxation Massage
A relaxing style that most Western massage techniques are based on. It was developed in Sweden by Pehr Henrik Ling and uses firm, yet gentle pressure to help promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and provide relief from pain.
A targeted style that incorporates deep tissue work to help relieve specific areas of muscle tightness and fatigue. Remedial massage can help with many common complaints such as stiff necks and sore shoulders. It is also effective in helping to reduce stress and promote muscle recovery.
A specialized form of massage that combines techniques from both Swedish and Remedial massage, that is specifically tailored for pregnant women.
Pregnancy massage can help to alleviate the extra tension and stresses placed on the body and will help to nurture and relax the body.
For your safety, pregnancy massage should always be performed by a certified pregnancy massage practitioner as there are many contraindications that may arise that are not present in non-pregnant individuals.
At Sydney Remedial Massage, we are proud to offer experienced and qualified pregnancy therapists to help you through this wonderful time.
Following the birth of your child, many new mums’ can often be overwhelmed with what comes with having a new family member. Just as throughout pregnancy, during the birth, a new mother will undergo much physical stress.

Post-natal massage is a wonderful way to relax and have some time out. Reducing your stress will impact positively on your relationships with your newborn, your partner and other family members and friends.
Post-natal massage is a great way for the new mother to look after their health and is also the perfect time to rest and recuperate amidst the flurry of activities following the birth of a new baby.
A more focused style of massage that aims to help our clients to get back into doing what they love doing best. Sports massage is a great addition to anyone’s health regime as it can help promote quicker recovery in between workout sessions and it is also essential to anyone who is training for an event or who is actively participating in any type of training.

What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a wonderful modern day treatment which brings together Eastern and Western theories and cultures in its practice.
Kinesiology uses the client’s own body as a muscle biofeedback system, to help identify and release pain and stress from the body.
Our bodies are made up of 5 major components –
- Physical / structural
- Nutritional / Environmental
- Emotional / Mental
- Spiritual and
- Energetic parts of our being.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the body has an energy force called Qi, which travels through the body along the 12 main meridians.
When there in an imbalance in the flow of Qi, the body is more likely to suffer from ill health and disease.
In 1964, a chiropractor, Dr George Goodheart noted that certain muscles relate to specific meridians in the body. He developed what is now commonly known as “Applied Kinesiology”.
Kinesiology uses applied kinesiology (muscle testing) and healing energy to help identify and release pain and stress from the body by locating and correcting emotional and metaphysical causes of disease.
In our sessions, we use a specialised modality called Kinergetics - which is different from other modalities of kinesiology as it specifically targets hydration in the body and also focuses on releasing the temporomandibular joint (TMJ or jaw).
It is known that dehydration can be the cause of many issues, such as chronic pain. By balancing the body’s ability to assimilate water properly, this can help the body to heal from pain and disease more easily.
Many people who suffer from stress may also experience jaw pain or TMJ issues, such as grinding or clenching of the jaw and teeth. By releasing the jaw, Kinergetics can help to balance 90% of the muscles in the body (ie. 90% of the meridians in the body).
Kinergetics works by identifying physical problems as well as mental and emotional stresses that are blocking or sabotaging personal growth.
Kinesiology can be helpful in many circumstances, amongst which include:
- Chronic pain
- Chronic fatigue syndrome
- Deep trauma
- Mercury and heavy metals sensitivity
- Stress and anxiety
- Relationship stress
- Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) issues
- Work/life balance stresses.
How Does It Work?
Everything in life is ruled by energy.
For humans, the thoughts we think, becomes the emotions that we feel resulting in the actions that we choose to take.
Often, when something happens in our lives, our body has its own unique way of storing and procession that information.
Similar situations may arise which add to the way we think, feel and act about that certain issue, and if unresolved, will just keep adding more layers of stress to that same issue.
Sometimes, if we just keep adding to the stress and have not processed it properly, it can cause our body to overload and our systems to “trip”.
For example, do you know someone who won’t say anything if someone or something irritates them and just pretends that everything is ok….?
Until… Boom! Completely out of the blue, they just seem to snap?
Chances are, that consciously, they may think that they’ve processed the issue, but in actual fact, they have just suppressed it until the body isn’t able to cope with it any more and they flip out over the smallest thing that may not even seem related.
Kinesiology provides a quick and easy way to help to identify the issue, when it might have occurred and gives the practitioner tools to help the client to deal with the issue immediately so that their body can process and release the stress.
As the body has an innate ability to heal itself, Kinergetics is an efficient way for the practitioner to facilitate healing for the client in a safe and effective way.
What Are the Benefits Following a Kinesiology Session?
There are many instances where people can benefit from a kinesiology session.
For myself, I know that my stresses often exhibit physically as eczema. I have personally seen the benefits of kinesiology as it was the only thing that I did differently and the eczema was significantly reduced after a session and had fully disappeared after several sessions.
Through the kinesiology sessions, I was able to identify what was the cause of the issue and it helped me to be able to understand, process and deal with it on a conscious and sub-conscious level, thereby eliminating it as a stress for me.
Granted, it may take more than a few sessions if the issue has been around for quite a while, but the results that I experienced were profound.
Many people who have experienced a kinesiology session report:
- Improved brain cognition and function
- Improved sports performance
- Improved career performance
- Improved relationships
- Less pain or no pain after treatment
- Feeling less stressed and anxious
- Feeling more calm and in control
- Feeling more centered
- Less physical symptoms (eg. Skin disorders, reaction to allergies)
- More energy and better health overall.

Please note that kinesiology is not used to diagnose or treat any diseases specifically but works by correcting the energetic imbalance around the client’s body. It is recommended that you consult with your GP or preferred health practitioner if you are suffering from severe symptoms.

What is Ortho-Bionomy?
Ortho-Bionomy® is a non-invasive, gentle manipulation technique to help align the body in able to return to its ideal state. It was founded in the early 1960’s by Dr Arthur Lincoln Pauls.
As an osteopath and martial arts instructor, he found that forceful manipulations and adjustments were just not doing the job, and following reading an article by Laurence Jones, he devised a softer, gentle manipulation which worked with the body, rather than against it.
It allows better communication between the nerves and the central nervous system.
By moving and supporting the body in a comfortable position, its corrective reflexes is stimulated.
This awakens the body’s healing ability by correcting itself.

I began to attend Sydney Remedial Massage a few months ago because I was suffering from pain in my jaw, neck and shoulders as well as headaches associated with grinding my teeth in my sleep.
My dentist had prescribed a splint to wear at night to protect my teeth but this did not address the pain and I was resorting to over-the-counter painkillers to give me relief.
As a result of seeing Melanie for RESET, my jaw began to relax more and more.
I began sleeping better and the headaches have become infrequent.
The improvement I feel has been enormous. I now continue to attend every few weeks for a massage to maintain the more relaxed posture and jaw I have gained.
I would recommended the treatment to anyone who suffers pain associated with grinding their teeth.

What Are The BARS?
If you could significantly reduce the stress levels in your life easily and effortlessly, then why would you choose otherwise?
Many people go through life, reeling from one emotional high to the next - whether it be high ups or low downs. This swing in emotional behaviour may actually be detrimental to our health.
Imagine if you could be neutrally appreciative of life.... what this means is that whatever happens, you are able to look at a situation and see it for what it really is.
Having your Bars "run" will help enable you to really appreciate life in all it's graceful beauty as well as it's darkest moments, without fear or expectation.
Did you know there are 32 points on your head which contain all the thoughts, ideas, beliefs, emotions, and considerations that you have stored in any lifetime? These points, when gently touched, can effortlessly and easily release anything that doesn't allow you to receive.
In just one Bars session, you could potentially release 5-10 years of limitations in the area of your life that is holding you back in what you truly desire.
Having your Bars "run" is an incredibly nurturing and relaxing process, undoing limitation in all aspects of your life that you are willing to change.
When I had my bars run by Mel I felt like there were suddenly a lot more possibilities in my life.
I also felt lighter and generally happier. It’s a powerful modality and would definitely recommend it.
