Benefits of Massage Therapy

Receiving a massage is not just a great way to treat and pamper yourself; it is widely acknowledged that regular massage therapy is able to contribute positively to your health and well-being.

Whether you’re an athlete, an office worker, or if you’re pregnant, your body will undergo different stresses at various points in your life.

Massage is well known to help

  • reduce stress
  • promote relaxation
  • improve posture and
  • assist in post-injury rehabilitation.

Apart from the fact that you feel fabulous post-massage, these are some other physical benefits associated with regular massage therapy:

  • Reduction of stress-related hormone production - reduces chemical stress on your body
  • Stimulation of the circulatory system - results in better organ function
  • Enhances of the release of endorphins in your brain - helps to alleviate anxiety and depression
  • Facilitation of your lymphatic system - helps to remove toxin build-up
  • Improved joint flexibility and range-of-motion
  • Muscles can be strengthened and exercised or stretched and relaxed
  • Massage has also been shown to be effective in reducing heart rate and high blood pressure. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, hypertension is the most common cardiovascular disease affecting almost 3 million people. Hypertension can often remain undetected and if untreated, may be fatal.

"To be or not to be isn't the question. The question is how to prolong being."

Types of Massage

Swedish massage

A relaxing style that most Western massage techniques are based on. It was developed in Sweden by Pehr Henrik Ling and uses firm, yet gentle pressure to help promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and provide relief from pain.

Remedial massage

A targeted style that incorporates deep tissue work to help relieve specific areas of muscle tightness and fatigue. Remedial massage can help with many common complaints such as stiff necks and sore shoulders. It is also effective in helping to reduce stress and promote muscle recovery.

Pregnancy massage*

A specialized form of massage that combines techniques from both Swedish and Remedial massage, that is specifically tailored for pregnant women.

During pregnancy, there are many physiological changes that occur that can cause the expectant mother to experience much discomfort.

Pregnancy massage can help to alleviate the extra tension and stresses placed on the body and will help to nurture and relax the body.

Pregnancy massage should always be performed by a certified pregnancy massage practitioner as there are many contraindications that may arise that are not present in non-pregnant individuals.

At Sydney Remedial Massage, we are proud to offer experienced and qualified pregnancy therapists to help you through this wonderful time.

Post-natal massage*

Following the birth of your child, many new mums’ can often be overwhelmed with what comes with having a new family member.

Just as throughout pregnancy, during the birth, a new mother will undergo much physical stress. Furthermore, post-pregnancy, she will experience many new changes as her body adjusts itself to motherhood and also as she regains her pre-pregnancy body.

Post-natal massage is a wonderful way to relax and have some time out. Reducing your stress will impact positively on your relationships with your newborn, your partner and other family members and friends.

Post-natal massage is a great way for the new mother to look after their health and is also the perfect time to rest and recuperate amidst the flurry of activities following the birth of a new baby.

*Please note: Our pregnancy and post-natal massage specialist is available on selected weekdays and Saturdays only.
